Old age home welcomes winter

Winter is here, and what better way to welcome the cold weather than to fill up and warm up with some hearty, homey vegetable soup?
This is why House of Hope Charity – a non-profit organisation aimed at helping underprivileged children and the elderly – brought with them some warmth to almost 80 underprivileged residents of the Jack Cotton Old Age Home and President Flats.

The event, which was held on Tuesday, 12 June was hosted and organised by charity chairperson Melinda van der Merwe and her team. Tasty wholesome soup, bread rolls and oranges were on the menu for the day.
“We always help where we can, and try to rotate our outreached between the children and the elderly. Our aim today was just to provide a little warmth in the cold weather, and we trust it was received well,” she said.

She went on to say that their next event will be for the children of Burgershoop in celebration of Mandela Day. They also have plans to make Spring Day even more colourful and festive for underprivileged residents.
However, as they don’t receive any government funding, they still need all the help they can get in order to enrich the lives of others.
