Introducing heroes to heroes
CPFs from all over Gauteng came together to train to protect the community better.
Neighbourhood watches and Community Policing Forums (CPFs) play a key role in fighting crime in South African communities. A visible policing presence and good collaboration between police, private security companies and residents can make a big difference to keeping areas safe and secure.
To support CPFs and to improve the skills of anti-crime-fighting volunteers, the inaugural Hood Challenge was held on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 June at the Black Duck Field Sports in Kromdraai.

The Hood Challenge is a private sector initiative aimed at upskilling volunteers who put their lives on the line to protect families and communities. This event, soon to expand nationally, will protect and train volunteers who proactively fight crime and safeguard society.
Given the ongoing scourge of violent crime, it’s essential that crime-fighting volunteers are sufficiently skilled and trained to manage the risks when out and about in our neighbourhoods.

The challenge included hand-gun skill development, reactive strategies development, and safety and defence tactics development.
Besides valuable skills training through a series of thrilling real-life simulations, the Hood Challenge was also a chance for CPFs to create a crime-fighting network.

The contestants could also win prizes which included training sessions, equipment and discounted training vouchers.
The team would like to thank their sponsors ER24, Rmour Academy and Black Duck Field Sports.
