School to spread warmth and love

Rant en Dal School is no different as they are aiming to spread some warmth within the community on 18 July.

With Mandela Day fast approaching, organisations, institutions and individuals across the world are preparing to change the world for the better, one small act of kindness at a time.

Rant-en-Dal School is no different, as they are aiming to spread some warmth within the community on 18 July. According to Head of Department, Sarah Steyn, and teacher, Elizma Leonard, community members passing the school along Fourth Street will get a pleasant surprise on this international day of giving.

Sarah said they aim to decorate the trees on the school’s sidewalk with scarves, beanies, gloves and jerseys. Anyone walking past will then have the opportunity to take whatever they need to get them through the winter.

“A great many parents and teachers have jumped on board to make this possible. Since the announcement of the project, they have knitted and donated some of the most beautiful knitwear,” she said.

“This will be the first year the school participates in Madiba Day, which makes it even more special. We are very excited about giving back to the community, and the parents and teachers are very enthusiastic about the project as well.”

Since the school’s name is in the process of being changed to Curamus School for Autism (‘curamus’ means ‘together in unconditional love’) they thought it best to distribute the message ‘Stay warm in unconditional love’ with each piece of knitwear.

“The community really supports us a lot and their hearts are always open. We want to show that it’s not all about taking and that’s why we want to give. We are very dependent on the community and we want to show we care by doing this,” Sarah explained.

“The core of the project is to spread warmth and love. We just know the project is going to be successful, so we would definitely like to do something similar to this every year.”

If you are interested in donating blankets, scarves, gloves or beanies, feel free to contact the school on 011 665 1033.
