‘Going once, going twice, sold’ said auctioneer Dave Price
Local auctioneer Dave Price was overjoyed to receive an invitation from the American National Auctioneers' Association to participate in their annual championships.
A local auctioneer, Dave Price, who is known for the charismatic energy that brings his auctions to life, was overjoyed to receive an invitation from the National Auctioneers’ Association to participate in their annual championship which was held from 30 April to 5 May.
Since auctioneering is taken very seriously in America, Dave felt extremely honoured, as he was the only South African participating in this prestigious event.
Auctioneering as a profession is not as easy as it might seem, since auctioneers have to undergo training and meet specific requirements to be promoted. It takes a lot of training, persistence and most of all, a hunger and passion for what you do.
However, Price, who is a qualified mechanic by trade, is one of the few auctioneers who didn’t have to do the auctioneers’ course.
Now, 15 years later, Dave has developed his own recognised chant and competed in his first-ever auctioneering competition. Even though he didn’t make it to the final round, he is still eternally grateful for the opportunity to have learned so much.
He went on to say that he was one of 100 participants that had to accumulate points by selling a total of six cars over the course of two rounds. The auctioneers were judged on various criteria, including their chant, their capacity to engage with the crowd, and their knowledge of what they were selling.
Dave, who has auctioned across the country and become known as the tattooed auctioneer, also spoke about his future as an auctioneer.
In closing, Dave said he was proud to have represented himself, his auction house and South Africa. He will continue to stay true to himself, and intends to reach great heights with his passion.
