Local police worried about number of firearms in wrong hands
"Two murders in two nights is too much."
Police have expressed their concern about the number of firearms that are in the hands of criminals after a 19-year-old boy was shot and killed recently.
On Wednesday, 11 July, at 7.45pm police found the boy lying in a pool of his own blood next to the road. He had a gunshot wound to the head. The murder appeared similar to one that occurred the previous night, in which another young man was shot in the head.
However, unlike the unknown victim from the previous night, the 19-year-old was identified by his next of kin soon after his death.
Brigadier Themba Maduna, Kagiso Police station commander, said that he was worried about the number of firearms in the hands of criminals that do not have respect for human life.
“Two murders in two nights is too much. We are still pleading with members of the community to report illegal firearms before more lives are lost,” he said.
The motive for the murder is being investigated and Kagiso Police are appealing to members of the community with information to assist. They can call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000/ 9059/ 9065/ 9067/ 9104 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
