Future of SA treated for Madiba Day

The event which was held at Boltonia Park welcomed more than 100 underprivileged children from the community.

In celebration of Madiba Day, a local non-profit organisation – Let’s Stand Together – decided to treat the future of the country to a day of many surprises.

The event, which was held on Monday, 16 July at Boltonia Park, welcomed more than 100 underprivileged children from the community. Each child received a hotdog, pizza, sweets, chips and juice as well as the opportunity to have their faces painted by volunteer Tersia de Bruyn.

They were also ecstatic at having a jumping castle sponsored for the day by RE/MAX.

According to founder and organiser, Julie Dearden, they aim to do something for Easter, Mandela Day and Christmas every year.

“We have to give back to the community. We always try to give what we can, where we can, even if we don’t really have much,” she said.

“If I can do it, why can’t others? These children really need someone to look out for them. That’s why I’m really thankful for everyone who contributed towards the success of the celebration.”

The children were also thrilled when DA ward councillor, Whitey Moleba, decided to pay a visit and join in the fun.

“We would like to thank G-Man Traders, C-Techs, VDL International Trading, Panarottis, Remax and DocQnet for their support. They truly made a lot of children happy for one day,” Julie concluded.
