Rant-en-Dal School drapes passersby with love
At the end of the day they were able to hand out a total of 465 scarves, 28 beanies and 12 pairs of gloves.
During the early morning of Wednesday, 18 July, people walking past Rant-en-Dal School along Fourth Street came across some funny looking trees.
They were pink and purple and orange and blue – and every other colour of the rainbow too.

Only after getting a few steps closer were they able to make sense of the strange phenomenon. It was hundreds of scarves and beanies draped over lines strung from one tree to another.
It was nothing other than the school’s first-ever Mandela Day project, which was organised by the school’s own Head of Department, Sarah Steyn, and teacher, Elizma Leonard.

At the end of the day they were able to hand out a total of 465 scarves, 28 beanies and 12 pairs of gloves. They even received a donation that enabled them to hand out a warm cup of hot chocolate with each piece of knitwear.
Since the school’s name is in the process of being changed to Curamus School for Autism (‘curamus’ means ‘together in unconditional love’) they thought it best to distribute the message ‘Stay warm in unconditional love’ with every handout.

Despite the cold weather, they were able to spread lots of warmth, for which they would like to thank the community.
