Veld fire reveals decomposing body in Muldersdrift

The body was scorched by the flames, but this doesn't seem to have been the cause of death.

The body of a man who is believed to have been in his 50s was found at the top of Steyn Road close to Hope Road in Heuningklip, Muldersdrift yesterday, 23 July.

The man who discovered the body was driving his bakkie along the road. A veld fire the night before had burnt the grass hiding the body and had scorched some of the body parts of the man and his clothes, but that did not seem to be the cause of death.

Reports indicate that the body had been there for quite some time. There were no signs of a struggle or wounds indicating that he was shot or stabbed.

Instead, he seems to have been in a sleeping position and those who viewed the body believed he might have died in his sleep.

Although many believe the man was not murdered, the actual cause of death will be subject to investigation by the police.

The body was identified by family members.
