Orphans remembered for Madiba Day
"I knew I had to come up with an initiative to help them."
On Saturday, 21 July approximately 50 orphaned children were remembered by a courageous community member who knows what it is like to grow up without parents.
Thomas Morakile has been an orphan from a very young age. Since he can relate so well to the children’s needs, he thought it best to dedicate his first-ever Madiba Day event to them.

“I grew up without a mother or a father, that’s why I figured that some of the orphans might be in a bad situation. I knew I had to come up with an initiative to help them,” he said.
He subsequently met with members of his church, Ukukhanya Kwa Ma Israel, and decided to collect as much clothes and food as possible to distribute among local orphans.
“I received a lot of donations from the community, the church and Albatros Insurance. I knew that I had to hand out whatever I could get in. I am really happy that I took on this event,” Thomas said.
After handing out the donations with fellow volunteers, they even cleaned up a local park.
“It was a big success and I’m already planning something big for next year. When I did my research, I came across two local orphanages that need all the help they can get,” he said.
“That’s why I’m already collecting clothes for next year and I know that God will bless me to go big.”
