Calling all bridge players

Two informal, fun, friendly but well-established bridge clubs (Florida North established 35 years ago and Krugersdorp 15 years ago) on the West Rand welcome all bridge players. The Horticultural Society

25 JULY — The Horticultural Society invites those interested to a talk by Dr Marion Bamford on Ancient Trees of the World at the Floreum, Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Olifants Road, Emmarentia. Mandela Celebrations

27–29 JULY — As part of the worldwide centenary celebrations of the birth of the late Nelson Mandela, Joburg Theatre brings together four South African musical legends: Jonas Gwangwa, Abigail Khubeka, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and Dorothy Masuka together with the nation’s foremost youth vocal ensemble, the Mzansi Youth Choir for a three-show-only concert to honour and celebrate, in song, the late great global icon, Madiba. Richie’s Toy and Model Car Fair

Come and visit Richie’s Toy Fair at the Marks Park Sports Club.

29 JULY — Come and visit Richie’s Toy Fair at the Marks Park Sports Club, corner Judith Road and Beyers Naude Drive from 8.30am; you’ll be spoilt for choice! The Late Great Motor Association will have some of their awesome street rods and show cars on display in the parking area. Parking is secure and free, and there are catering facilities. Three-koppie hike

Join in on a three-koppie group hike of up to 10km through the Melville Koppies.

29 JULY — Join in on a three-koppie group hike of up to 10km through the Melville Koppies. The group sets off 8.30am sharp. You can park, meet and pay in the upper car park at Marks Park on Judith Road, Emmarentia. Costs are R60 for adults and R40 for children – all donations are used to maintain the Koppies. Hikers must be fit with good balance as paths are rocky and steep. Children must be over six years old. Sorry, no dogs allowed. 3–4 AUGUST — Twice every year the Roodepoort Little Theatre Productions takes over the Roodepoort Basement Theatre. Roar-Gust Un-Wind is their 2018 winter warmer. Not only will you get to enjoy marvellous performances by the cream of the RLT crop, you’ll have a unique opportunity to see other fabulous acts in action.
