[WATCH] Brave fireman risks his life to save cat from certain death

It seems as if it's not only in Hollywood movies that firemen rescue cats from high places.

A video of a fireman balancing on a ladder almost five metres in the air to save a cat from certain death has surfaced and gone viral, and the Krugersdorp community is praising his bravery.

Residents of Nellie Street in Krugersdorp West heard the cat crying and dogs barking on Wednesday, 25 July and upon investigation, found a cat sitting on top of a electricity pole about five metres above the ground. The cat was clearly stuck as it stayed there until the next morning without moving a single muscle. The residents of the house close to the pole contacted the local Community Policing Forum’s Denise Smit, who is part of Sector 5. “I didn’t know at that stage how to help them, but I contacted 107 and they sent out the fire brigade,” said Denise.

Within minutes, the West Rand Fire Department’s red fire truck arrived at the scene. The firemen worked on a plan to save the cat. They had to balance the ladder against the pole and send one of their brave firemen up to rescue it.

In a video taken by a bystander, the fireman’s gentleness while picking up the cat is heartwarming.
After the rescue, Denise and the rest of her sector posted pictures of the cat on Facebook to locate its owner and within hours a woman who lives two blocks from where the cat got stuck, identified him.

In the comment section of the initial post, Andrew Ingram posted, “Well done. And here I thought it’s only in movies that firemen rescued cats from trees”.
