Curro’s friendly gift to Fora
When the Curro learners arrived at Fora they were greeted by friendly, excited animals.
What started as a mere collection and donation of pet food ended in something completely different – an experience to remember forever.
On Wednesday, 25 July, seven learners from Curro Krugersdorp High School set off to Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) to deliver a load of pet food which had been donated by the learners of the school.
The learners were greeted by a goat, which initially did not come across as very friendly, but after a few minutes they learnt that there is no such thing as an unfriendly animal at Fora.

A mountain of bags and tins of pet food was offloaded and immediately the dogs started sniffing excitedly, very clearly knowing that the items were meant for them.
The learners were taken on a guided tour through the facility, starting at the ‘Tea Garden’, an area where the puppies are kept, together with a few older dogs, just to keep them in check. The learners fell in love instantaneously and many of them started working on the speeches that they were going to give their parents later the evening – begging to adopt a puppy.

Next, the learners were introduced to two pigs, a sheep and a lamb. Once again, the learners were slightly afraid to touch the pigs, but after confirmation that the pigs are completely harmless, they found out that the only thing the pigs want is a belly rub.
More puppies were played with, the learners were sad to say goodbye but the older dogs were awaiting their turn.

The learners were each given a leash and allowed to pick any dog to take for a walk. This was most certainly the highlight of the afternoon, as the joy that the dogs showed was priceless. The hardest part was taking the dogs back to their kennels after the walk. Saying goodbye is never easy – especially this time around.
Fora is a marvellous place, where both the humans and the animals gain from the experience!
