Mogale City warns against ongoing scams
The municipality only advertises aforementioned opportunities in targeted national newspapers and on the municipal website.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has been inundated with calls from people who have been defrauded of money.
Unauthorised individuals are advertising fraudulent employment, tenders, sale of properties, land and RDP homes under the municipality’s brand, asking for upfront payments.
“As a government entity, the municipality does not ask for fees or upfront payments during the tendering, recruitment and RDP allocation process. We would like to make the public, businesses, our suppliers and service providers aware that these offers are fraudulent as the municipality only advertises aforementioned opportunities in targeted national newspapers and on the municipal website [www.mogalecity.gov.za],” a statement by MCLM reads.
The statement further urged the public not to offer money to any employee or person who claims to be an employee or acting on behalf of the municipality, be it to buy an RDP house, piece of land or for the connection of services such as water or electricity. “Payments in respect of municipal services and offerings should be made at designated MCLM premises where a valid receipt will be issued by our cashiers.
“If you are approached by an individual or agency that attempts to solicit a fee, or if you come across employment or tender offers that are issued outside the norms and procedures of the municipality’s processes, we urge you to contact our Corporate Ethics Division on 011 951 2595 or 011 668 0719.”
