Giant billboard vanishes into thin air

The nature reserve is offering a great reward for any information pertaining to its billboard's disappearance.

The disappearance of the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve’s 18-metre long billboard has left the reserve’s executives gobsmacked.

At the beginning of August, the Bothongo Group, which now owns the reserve, placed its 18-metre long, 4,5-metre high billboard on an already erected post on the R512 Lanseria road.

Asheen Dayal, Group Marketing Manager of Bothongo, told the News that when he took some of their international executives on a drive to show them the billboards, they came across an empty space just outside of Lanseria Airport.

“We were stunned and shocked beyond belief,” Asheen said.

Asheen said they initially thought the advertisement company had de-flighted the billboard, which means they removed the billboard due to scheduling.

“But that was not the case.”

The message on the billboard addresses the rhino poaching dilemma in South Africa and Asheen said they are offering a VIP weekend for six people to anyone who can provide information about its disappearance.

Posts on Facebook suggest that the Johannesburg Roads Agency removed the billboard, but Asheen said it has all the correct licensing in place. Others say it’s a publicity stunt.
