Women airlifted following collision in Hekpoort

Paramedics, West Rand District Fire Department as well as other emergency services personnel arrived on scene to help the three critically injured women.

Two people were airlifted following a collision along the R563 near Hekpoort yesterday afternoon (Sunday, 16 September).

Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson said paramedics, the West Rand District Fire Department as well as other emergency services arrived on scene shortly after noon. They found a light motor vehicle near the side of the road.

“Three women with multiple injuries were found trapped inside the vehicle. All three were had to be freed by the Fire Department,” Vermaak explained.

The ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter as well as another medical helicopter were called to the scene to airlift two of the women to hospital. They had sustained critical injuries.

The third woman was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance after being treated for multiple serious injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.
