Fourth suspect in brutal rape caught

The woman gave them her cellphone, but the men were not satisfied.

One more suspect has been arrested in connection with a brutal gang rape.

A 30-year old woman was allegedly on her way to Swanieville, Kagiso from Tshepong West (Ebumnandini) on 29 July when she was raped by three unknown men.

The woman was being accompanied by her neighbour when five men suddenly appeared. One of the men had a firearm and when confronted, the neighbour tried to resist, but was threatened with the firearm. His phone was taken and he was ordered to run away.

When the woman tried to flee with him the men gave chase and caught her. The man with the firearm hit the woman on the back of her neck and demanded cash and other possessions. The woman gave them her cellphone but the men were not satisfied.

They allegedly pinned her down, undressed her and took turns brutally raping her.

The arrest of a 35-year-old Mozambican is the fourth arrest made in this case.

The other three suspects are already in custody.

The fourth suspect will be charged with rape and robbery and is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.

The Kagiso Police said they will continue their search for the fifth and final suspect.
