Truck hijacked with cargo to the value of R170 million

The horse of the truck has been recovered, but the cargo is still missing.

A truck carrying goods to the value of R170 million was hijacked on 10 October in the Kromdraai area.

At about 6pm, the 61-year-old driver was driving his company’s Mercedes-Benz truck on the N14. The truck had two trailers and was on its way back from Botswana with scrap metal and other products.

He alleges that four unknown men, one of whom was dressed in a traffic officer’s uniform, pulled him over.

According to the driver, they pointed a firearm at him and forced him to the back of the truck’s seats. He claims that he was also moved to another vehicle.

The driver was later dropped off in Kathlehong and a case of truck hijacking was opened.

The horse of the truck has been recovered, but the cargo is still missing.
