Woman accused of witchcraft is assaulted
A woman was assaulted after a couple chased after her and accused her of witchcraft.
A woman in Swanieville, Kagiso was accused of witchcraft and then assaulted.
A couple, aged 44 and 45, was arrested on Wednesday, 17 October for allegedly attacking and assaulting a woman they claimed was a witch.
The victim, a foreign national, said that on 11 October she was going to fetch boiled water with a bucket but when the bucket fell on her way back she rather just went and bought airtime nearby.
On her way back from the shop she noticed two people running after her.
She started fleeing because she believed she was going to be robbed.
The victim knew the two people following her and when they caught up with her they started accusing her of being a witch and assaulted her.
The woman’s landlady saw the commotion and came out to help her. She tried to take the woman away to a safer place but the couple followed them and continued their assault and threatened to kill her.
The woman eventually got away from her attackers and laid a charge at the Kagiso Police Station. The couple, also foreign nationals, were traced and arrested and will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court today. They are facing charges of assault and intimidation.
