Man who robbed a spaza shop gets his day in court

One of the men involved in a spaza shop robbery, has been caught.

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested on 19 October at Swaneville near Kagiso, for allegedly robbing a spaza shop in the area last month.

According to the owner of the shop, he was busy inside the shop at about noon when two men came in and pretended to be customers.

One of the men was armed with a firearm and pointed it at the owner and demanded cash. The owner gave him the money that he had in a bag on him.

The men decided to take a further look around the shop and found more money under the counter in a box. They took the money, cartons of cigarettes and the owner’s Samsung cellphone before fleeing the scene.

Luckily the owner was not harmed and he reported the case to the Kagiso Police.

The 26-year-old suspect was cornered and caught on 19 October. He has made brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court, but was remanded into police custody for further investigation.
