Suspects caught in murder-hijacking case

Kagiso police have caught two suspects after they killed a man when they hijacked him.

A man lost his life in a senseless hijacking on 11 November.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police, their crime prevention members were conducting a special operation in Swaneville when they received a complaint about a shooting.

They rushed to the crime scene where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood next to the street. The man, who had been shot in his upper body, had succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

Police at the scene noticed a round of ammunition and a used cartridge next to the body.

It is alleged that the man was parked at a spaza shop when two men confronted him, demanding his car keys.

One of the men drew a firearm and fired a shot at him when he tried to resist. The men took his car keys and drove off in his white Colt bakkie.

On 13 November, the West Rand Trio Task team apprehended the men, aged 24 and 25, in Rietvallei Extension 2. They were caught with a firearm and four rounds of ammunition in their possession. They are facing charges of hijacking and murder and are being detained at the Kagiso Police Station.

The West Rand Cluster commander, Major General Fred Kekana, has applauded the police’s swift response and thanked those members of the public who provided information and assisted the police.
