Captain Raymond Sebonyane, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police, responded to the News’ request for further information, and said that three suspects had been arrested.
It is believed that one of the suspects went into the bank to apply for a loan. The documents he used to try and obtain the loan were checked and found to be fraudulent – the account number on the bank statements he provided actually belonged to someone else.
The bank’s employee informed the police and the suspects were arrested and detained in the Krugersdorp police cells.
All three suspects have since appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
According to Sebonyane, the Krugersdorp Police’s station commander commended the police members for their response and thanked the bank staff for working hand in hand with the police.
