Justice after suspect hid for more than a year

Now more than a year later, the victim and his family will finally see justice.

One tragic night in November 2017, a man began fighting for his life after being shot. Now, more than a year later, he and his family will finally see justice.

Just after midnight on the night in question, the Kagiso Police’s Crime Prevention members were patrolling in Block 7 of Tshepisong, when they were stopped by a resident.

The man told them that his brother had been shot and that he knew the attacker well. He said it was a man from Soweto.

Another person, a tenant from the same yard, came forward and told them she had also spotted the attacker running and getting into a vehicle after she heard the gunshots.

The victim was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound above his right eye.

A case of attempted murder was opened with the Kagiso Police and the search for the would- be killer began.

More than a year later, the police received a tip-off about the attacker’s whereabouts, and on 21 January 2019, the 31-year-old suspect was arrested.

The case has been reopened and the suspect has been remanded in custody after briefly appearing in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court. The investigation continues.
