One of the men was armed with a knife, and they claimed that the victim and his friend had stolen a cellphone at a tavern.
The man’s friend managed to escape and one of the three attackers, armed with a firearm, chased after him. The perpetrator returned later, without the victim’s friend.
The victim was then taken to a shack where he was assaulted with a hammer. He sustained injuries on his upper body and to the fingers of his right hand.
The three men eventually left after the victim told them that it was in fact his friend who had stolen the cellphone.
The man was treated in hospital and laid a charge with the Kagiso Police.
Two of the three men were arrested and formally charged. The other suspect is still on the run.
