Dagga packets land 63-year-old in jail

A man could not produce a certificate stating that he was allowed to smoke the dagga in his possession and he was subsequently arrested.

On Thursday, 21 February, the Hekpoort Police arrested a 63-year-old man for possession of dagga. He was released on bail later the same day.

According to a statement by Constable Gloria Maswanganye, the arresting officer was on duty at a vehicle control point on the R24 when he stopped a Volkswagen Polo with three occupants.

The officer searched the vehicle and found packets of dagga. The 63-year-old man then told the officer that the dagga belonged to him, but could not produce a certificate that permitted him to smoke it.

The man will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 27 February.
