Local voters went out in numbers on 8 May to cast their votes at various voting stations across Krugersdorp.
The News was at various stations including Jubilee Hall in Lewisham, where voters came to exercise their democratic right.
Although there are reports that some people cast votes more than once, the voting process went well at Jubilee Hall, without any kind of disruption reported.
Pieter Erasmus, 70, has not missed an election since he was 18 and cast his 10th vote at Lewisham.
“It is a privilege for me to be voting today and I am very happy that I exercised my democratic right, because it is important for each and every South African to vote. When you have not voted, you do not have a say when the government fails to meet your rights as a citizen, so this is the opportunity for everyone to choose the government they wish to be governed by.”
Tshepo Mthunzi also cast his vote at Jubilee Hall and said everything went well there as the Independent Electoral Commission officials were making sure that everything ran smoothly. He also mentioned that the elderly and the disabled were being allowed to vote first to minimise the risks of senior citizens standing in long queues.
