Comic collectors in awe of this man-cave
Don’t be surprised if you ever find yourself in this wonderful, magical place and suddenly jump from fright.
Damian de Canha of Monument Liquor Warehouse fame, who has this love of comic books and pop-culture that so many are currently developing, now has one of the most impressive collections in all of South Africa.
One statue, small and seemingly not that significant against more expensive figurines, was fated to make its way into Damian’s hands. It was this small, mean-looking Hulk that sparked something inside of him that he didn’t know was there: more than a fascination, but a need to be a part of this ‘geek’-culture. It was at that moment, nearly two years ago, that Damian’s impressive pop-culture collection was started.
Today, Damian has a collection of statues, comic books and paraphernalia that would make most collectors worldwide cry with envy. When it came to picking the specific genre he wanted to collected, he simply couldn’t decide on just one favourite.

Although Damian had always had an interest in DC comic books and the Star Wars films, he finally settled on Marvel, Mortal Combat and Transformers. Suddenly, his collection exploded, to the point where his ‘man cave’ just wasn’t big enough any more, and he had to open up another room in his house just for the Transformers and Mortal Combat figurines.
A prized collection piece recently arrived in his home, and took some assembling and multiple hands to handle. The Hulkbuster statue weighs 80 kilograms, is about as big as Damian’s upper body and was perfectly hand-crafted to the exact specifications of the armoured suit in the film.
The detail on every other statue is so meticulous that you would be forgiven for thinking you were looking right at Robert Downey Jnr’s face, except for the fact that it’s the size of your thumb and doesn’t move.
Damian decided he might as well start importing these collectibles to sell and started his own fan page on Facebook. He called it Symbiote Premium Comics and Collectibles.
He’s been buying most of his collectibles from XM Studios and has recently partnered with them to bring more of their products into the country. Damian noted that every statue is individually hand-crafted and painted so that each is unique and looks as lifelike and accurate as their comic book or movie counterparts as possible.
