Overcoming poverty through education
"The inspiration came from being exposed to our careers from a young age and dedicating our spare time to things that were related to our studies."
Victor Mokone, 26, wants to encourage the youth to stand up and fight poverty through education in the rural communities.
Victor is a qualified artisan and works as a mechanical technician. He wants people living in dire situations to know that they can rise above their circumstances.
Although he didn’t have an easy journey through his studies, with determination and dedication and the support of his girlfriend, Keaotshepa Tsimane, who also went to the same school, he was able to complete his studies.
“The inspiration came from being exposed to our careers from an early age and dedicating our spare time to things that were related to our studies. We never had it all; sometimes we had to study late at night in a cold shack.”
Victor said they were goal driven and encouraged each other to achieve a better future.
“Happiness, support, and honesty were the foundation of the nine years we have been together. No one but ourselves created memories to look back on.”
Victor, together with his now fiancée are planning to open a catering and events organising company to create job opportunities in Krugersdorp, as there are lots of unemployed youth in the community.
“Regardless of your situation, believe in yourself. Faith plays a big role too – none of our success would have been possible without Jesus,” Victor said.
