One dead and one critical in car and truck collision on N14

The car was found wedged under the side of the truck and the two women in the front seats were trapped. The Jaws of Life were used to gain access to the injured.

ER24 paramedics responded to reports of an accident on the N14 near the Petroport in Lanseria North on Friday night, 24 May, at about 7pm.

Four women, believed to all be in their 30s, were involved in a collision. Their car rear-ended a truck on the highway.

The car was found wedged under the side of the truck and the two women in the front seats were trapped. Paramedics, Emergency Managing Services and the Fire Department were on scene.

It was reported that, unfortunately, the front passenger showed no signs of life and was declared deceased. The driver was found to be critically injured, and the Jaws of Life were used to free and extricate her, while advanced life support interventions were used throughout.

The road was closed off to enable an ER24 Oneplan helicopter to take the injured driver to a private hospital.

The two passengers in the back of the car had suffered serious injuries and were immediately transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Police and other relevant authorities were on scene.
