[PHOTOS] Very special Christmas dinner for Tower of Life residents

The Tower of Life takes in many destitute Krugersdorpers and help them get back on their feet. The AFM Church and congregation wanted to do something special and hosted a chef-style dinner on their grounds.

The men and women from the Tower of Life shelter have faced massive obstacles throughout the year, but now they’re getting back on their feet and are focusing all their energy on turning their lives around.

Robina Lawrie felt a strong need to organise an event for them after she had watched over one of the shelter residents. She came into contact with a chef and organised the entire event with the help of the Tower and the AFM Church in Noordheuwel.

It was much like a night out on the town, going to a restaurant or watching a show.

The church hosted the 120 shelter residents for a delicious meal, prepared by professional chef Keith Goslett, and provided some light entertainment with a live band. The food was prepared and presented on the plate as if in a fancy five-star restaurant, and served to the guests by young volunteers from the church and community.

“When I contacted Keith, he said it was exactly what he was waiting for to get involved with,” Robina explained. She knew she wanted to help, but didn’t know how to cater to 120 people. Keith jumped on board and an amazing meal was prepared.

The Tower residents sat in the church hall chatting away the entire night, and, when the food came, happily gobbled up every morsel.

“It’s really special for them. They never have the opportunity to go out like other people do,” Melodie van Brakel, founder of the Tower of Life’s women shelter said.

Melodie recalled crying when she arrived at the church and saw just how much effort was put into making the night one the residents will never forget.
