Good and weird ways to beat a hangover
The web is filled with many strange superstitions and beliefs around beating a hangover after a good night of partying.
It’s a time to relax, switch off your mind from work and maybe have a few drinks (responsibly). But, you might find yourself overindulging and waking up the next morning to quite the hangover. Here are a few good, bad and simply strange hangover cures that might, or might not work.
1) Drink pickle juice. The idea is that pickle juice contains a lot of salts, which can help replace the electrolytes you lost during a long night of drinking.
2) Buffalo milk. Some African cultures, such as in Namibia, believe this mixture of rum, liqueur, whole cream and clotted cream is enough to quickly take a hangover away.
3) Pickled sheep eyeballs and tomato juice. A Mongolian superstition is that it drives out the demons from your body after drinking too much.
4) Coconut water. This hangover drink is filled with potassium, which might have been lost through bodily excretions after a lot of drinking.
5) Virgin Bloody Mary. Tomato juice is said to speed up your body’s metabolism to process alcohol.
6) A ‘garage pie’ and Creme Soda. A South African hangover cure favourite, there are many thoughts on why a meat pie and cool drink helps you to get over a hangover. For the most part, a meat pie is heavy and filling, which can help absorb alcohol and replace many of the lost nutrients in your body. The sugar in a soda can also help boost your body.
7) Water. Water is what all organic life is based on, and is necessary to keep on living and stay healthy. Alcohol has a way of drying you out, so it’s important to drink plenty of water before, after and especially while you drink.
