Hekpoort Police recently had their hands full with a business robbery at the Hekpoort Post Office.
In a statement sent by Constable Gloria Maswanganye from the Hekpoort Police’s corporate communications department, she explained that the post office on the R560 Brits road, and police officers, were robbed at gunpoint.
According to her statement, the police were doing crime-prevention patrols and monitoring SASSA pay points around the area of the post office.
“They noticed a cash delivery vehicle entering the post office’s premises and followed it to assist with security backup,” the statement read.
After dropping off the money, the cash delivery vehicle left, but just a few minutes later the members saw a silver Toyota Corolla and a black BMW 3 series driving into the post office’s premises.

The eight occupants of the two vehicles were heavily armed.
They held the police members at gunpoint and disarmed them of a state R5 riffle and a 9mm pistol. They also took the members’ bulletproof vests and a cell phone.
After robbing the police members they went into the post office. They ordered the personnel to open the door and threatened to shoot the police members if they refused.
Once inside they took a bag with an undisclosed amount of money before jumping into the vehicles and fleeing.
The Hekpoort Police station commander, Captain Kgomotso Manthata was also patrolling the area close to the post office. A security officer who was chasing the suspects notified her of what had happened and she also gave chase, but unfortunately they could not find the robbers.
The cell phone was later found near the Bekker Schools.
West Rand District Police commissioner, Major General Kekana, who was among the district commanders who attended the scene, is appealing to members of the community to come forward with information that could help to apprehend the suspects.
“The suspects should not be approached as they are heavily armed; the community should rather phone the police.”
The Hekpoort Police can be contacted on 014 576 9100 or 079 515 7231, or alternatively call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
