Upswing Program helps local learners improve

The Education Department, in cooperation with Hoërskool Noordheuwel have seen great success with their Upswing programme as they help top learners in Kagiso to perform even better.

Being a high school learner is a full-time job.

Learners who wish to succeed put in everything and always go the extra mile, even after the last school bell of the day has rung. For those who want to put in more, studying on weekends isn’t out of the question. Since 2017, from February until October every year, there has been such an opportunity.

On Saturdays, learners from a few Kagiso high schools are picked up by Hoërskool Noordheuwel buses and dropped off at the school. The hard work starts when most other learners are relaxing in front of the television, or are out with their family, enjoying their time off.

The Upswing programme was started when Circuit 4 Manager, Nonhlanhla Ntshangase approached the school and asked for their help.

Those who wish to excel are given the opportunity to improve their knowledge, find new approaches to studying and increase their marks in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting and Mathematics Literacy.
