A 27-year-old man from the Zulu Jump informal settlement was arrested by Kagiso Police at about 6am on 16 March after his mother had called them to say he was attacking her.
According to a statement sent by the Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, the man arrived at his mother’s house at about 3.50am, entered her bedroom and accused her of stealing cash from him.
He then assaulted her.

“The victim sustained injuries to the body,” read the statement. She called the police who swiftly managed to arrest the man.
The statement went on to say, “The station commander condemned all forms of violence directed at defenceless women and children”.
He also advised that the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998 provided for the victim to apply for a protection order.
He said anyone who feels unsafe in his or her own space must apply for a protection order with the help of a police officer, adding that domestic violence covers different forms of abuse, including physical abuse.
“The suspect has been detained at the Kagiso Police Station and will appear in court facing charges of assault and domestic violence.”
