Essential municipal services will continue during lockdown

This means that your garbage should still be collected weekly, electricity and water supply will continue uninterrupted, problems with water and electricity will be seen to by maintenance staff, and public safety programmes will be implemented to ensure residents' security.

Going into lockdown, it’s natural to have a lot of questions. It’s something completely new and none of us has ever experienced anything like it.

To help answer some of the questions, the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) recently spoke to the News about local service provision during the 21-day lockdown period.

“Mogale City, through consultation with internal and external stakeholders, has put in place measures to ensure that service delivery continues during the lockdown period,” according to communications from the MCLM to the News just before the nationwide lockdown commenced at midnight on 26 March.

Municipal workers from each department responsible for essential services will be granted special clearance to go out into town and provide these services to the community. This means that your garbage should still be collected weekly, electricity and water supply will continue uninterrupted, problems with water and electricity will be seen to by maintenance staff, and public safety programmes will be implemented to ensure residents’ security.

The above, as well as public safety, are all essential services which the MCLM has promised will continue as usual.

The following essential services contact details will be in effect from 27 March until 16 April:

Electricity call centre: 086 166 4253, alternatively 083 469 4596, 083 469 4526 or 083 469 4550 from Mondays to Fridays from 7.30am to 4pm; or SMS and WhatsApp: 060 568 1813 or 078 645 6055 from Mondays to Sundays from 4pm to 11pm
