Jogger raped: Man threatens to kill her if she ever speaks up

'He thereafter threatened that he would send people to the victim's home to kill her if she ever informed anyone about the incident' – Police.

Kagiso Police are searching for a suspect in connection with a rape incident some time ago near Azaadville.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson said the incident took place during lockdown on 29 May, but that the victim was threatened by the rapist that he would send people to her home to kill her if she ever informed anyone about the incident. It is unclear exactly why the woman decided to speak up about the incident now.

Sibiya said the incident happened when the victim, who is from Rietvallei, was jogging with two cousins at about 6.20am that morning. Later, as she walked past the library in Rietvallei Extension 2 on her way back home, she realised that an unknown man was following her.

The man suddenly confronted the victim and threatened her with a pair of scissors. He then ordered her to an open veld near Kagiso power station where he attempted to rape her, but was disturbed by a passer-by. A few minutes later he took the victim to another open veld near Azaadville where he raped her. Then he made the threats.”

Kagiso Police are appealing to anyone who is able to recognise the suspect or knows his whereabouts to call the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on 083 727 6809, or Kagiso Police on 011 696 9059/ 9065/ 9067.
