Teen caught with firearm and ammo

Youngster aged 17 arrested as the police's crime-prevention team continued to make life difficult for those who defy the law.

Kagiso Police arrested a teenager in Sinqobile during the weekend for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson, the youngster was arrested on Sunday night, 23 August as their crime-prevention team continued to make life difficult for those who defy the law.

“The team received a tip-off from an anonymous caller about a suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Sinqobile. They proceeded to the address and found a 17-year-old who voluntarily confessed to be in possession of a firearm. He then informed police that it was hidden under a mattress, where police found the firearm with a magazine, two rounds of 9mm ammunition and one rifle round.

“The youngster was arrested immediately and charged accordingly.”

Sibiya added the teen was thereafter transferred to a youth rehabilitation institution. Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander added, “Working closely with police will make our area one of the safe destinations on the West Rand.”
