A man from Krugersdorp has been sentenced to 66 years imprisonment after being found guilty on charges relating to child pornography.

Judge Daniel Mogotsi handed down the sentence in the South Gauteng High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning, 1 September. The man pleaded guilty to charges of possessing, creating and importing child pornography.
The man not only possessed graphic sexual content of minors but also produced it by using minors in his own family. He then distributed the content to others on social media platforms. He was brought up on seven charges relating to procuring, distributing and possessing the explicit content.
- On charge one – the unlawful possession of child pornography – he was sentenced to six years imprisonment.
- On charge two – the unlawful creation of child pornography – he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
- On charge three – the unlawful procuring of child pornography – he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
- On charge four – the distribution of child pornography – he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
- On charge five – using a child for pornography – he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
- On charge six – the unlawful benefiting from child pornography – he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
- On charge seven – furthering the sexual exploitation of a child – he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
The sentencing also included that four years of count five, six and seven be suspended for a period of three years on the condition that the man is not convicted of any offence involving child pornography. His sentences will run concurrently.
The Krugersdorp man was also declared unfit to posses a firearm and his name will be added to the National Registry for Sexual Offenders.
