UPDATE: Fourth security guard dies in Krugersdorp train depot shooting

Krugersdorp Police reveals a fourth security guard was shot and killed.

Krugersdorp Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after a shooting at a train depot in Krugersdorp left three security guards injured and one dead.

The incident occurred last Wednesday night, 26 August.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, three wounded security officers were in a serious to critical condition at the time.

A few days after the shooting, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson revealed that a fourth security guard had been shot and killed during the incident.

“Security guards where on night duty when they were attacked by about 10 unknown men who, without saying anything, started shooting randomly. The security guards ran for cover in different directions.

Three security guards aged 30, 34 and 44 were shot. Two of them were taken to the nearest hospital, one was airlifted to a Johannesburg hospital while a fourth security guard age 36 was certified dead on scene by emergency services.”

According to Meiring, ER24 is only aware of three patients, but that the fatality may have been attended to by another service.

Captain Sebonyane added, “The suspects stole a cable of about 335 metres long, the value of which is unknown at this stage. No arrests have been made and investigations continue.”

Police are appealing to the community to assist with any information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators. However, the suspects are not to be confronted as they are armed and dangerous.
