Four young boys who allegedly committed rape were among 1 230 suspects arrested by police in Gauteng over the weekend.
The four boys between the ages of 10 and 13 were taken to the Walter Sisulu Youth Centre after they allegedly raped a four-year-old girl in Muldersdrift on Friday, 4 September.
In a statement released by Captain Mavela Masondo, Provincial Police spokesperson, he explained that the little girl’s mother was busy doing a client’s hair when her nephew came to tell her about the alleged rape.
The boys together with their guardians, as well as the mother and the victim were taken to the police station where rape case was opened for further investigation,” he said.
He explained that pending the investigation a case of child neglect might be opened against the mother of the victim.
“Police are appealing to the community to report any guardian or parent suspected to be neglecting children in their care,” said Masondo.
