Five family members, including minor, arrested for assault

Five members of a family, including a 14-year-old, have been arrested for assault. The oldest suspects is 69.

Kagiso Police arrested five members of one family for allegedly assaulting a man related to them by marriage.

Captain Solomon, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained they made the arrests on Sunday, 18 October at about 9.15pm in Azaadville near Kagiso.

The suspects aged between 14 and 69 years old were all arrested and later detained at the Kagiso Police Station,” he said.

He added that a case of common assault and domestic violence has been registered at the Kagiso Police and that the motive behind the assault is still being investigated.

Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander spoke about domestic violence, saying, “Domestic violence is a serious threat in our community. We can not take it lightly and we intend to root it out.”

Four of the suspects will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court while the fifth one, a minor, was released under parental supervision.
