Eskom will be implementing load reductions in high-density areas from 5pm to 10 today (28 October) to avoid overloading the network.
“During load reduction, customers are urged to switch off all their electrical appliances to avoid possible damage due to power surges when supply returns. Failure to do so may lead to transformer trips or failures, and damage to household appliances when supply is restored,” said William Mnune from Communication and Stakeholder Management at Eskom.
The areas that will be affected are Bekkersdal, Kagiso, Rietvallei and Sinqobile. Residents are asked not to report these outages, but are encouraged to report meter bypasses, illegal connections and vandalism of the electricity infrastructure on the Eskom Crime Line number 0800 11 27 22.
