VIDEO: Netcare Krugersdorp goes beyond the call of duty

The staff at Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital showed their hard work, passion for helping and tendency to do far more than what's expected

Nurses and doctors have been hailed the champions and undefeated superheroes of 2020 –with good reason.

Not only did they go above and beyond during the crisis brought about by the pandemic, but the staff at Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital showed their hard work, passion for helping and tendency to do far more than what’s expected, no matter the illness that knows no bounds.

Throughout October, staff members had been hard at work to fundraise internally in an effort to support cancer patients as they go through a traumatic time in their lives. They sold pink shirts, buffs, scarves and hats, and sold raffles tickets at R5 a piece for hampers donated by Ampath, Lancet and Pathcare laboratories, as well as Dr Fathima Docrat’s practice.

“Pink Glitter Boxes filled with special items were ‘sold’ to doctors as a donation to the cause. These boxes will be donated to the public sector for breast cancer patients through the two organisations Reach for Recovery and Cancervive,” explained Hospital Manager Zeyn Asmal.

“This initiative was born and driven by Doctors Docrat and Breytenbach, and Sister Martie Joubert.”

The project raised R52 000 of which R30 000 was donated to Reach for Recovery and R22 000 to Cancervive with 300 Glitter Boxes being donated to the charities and the public.

Mrs World 2016, Candice Abrahams helped out on 28 October to hand over the donations, do the draw and announce the raffle winners.
