A fairytale day for four matric girls

With the help of fairy godmother's in the form of sponsorship four matric girls had a special matric farewell day.

Every girl dreams of her Cinderella moment that usually comes at the end of her matric year when she gets dolled up for her matric farewell.

Although 2020 seemed like it would steal this moment, in the end most matrics got to have their farewell. Like every year though there were those who did not have the means to attend theirs, and for four girls this all changed because of NSPA hair salon.

Owner of NSPA, Natalie Lawlor explained that she started a project two years ago to help girls whose parents could not afford to send them to their matric farewells.

She said that while doing a matric girl from Krugersdorp High School’s hair at the time, she noticed her friend supporting her and taking photos of her. She asked the girl’s friend how old she was and she explained that she was also in matric.

When asked why she was not getting ready for the matric dance, the girl explained that she could not afford to go.

“I told her we would get her ready and I have a dress at home, but she explained that it was already too late to buy a ticket. That is when I decided I wanted to help girls like her,” Natalie said.

She thought the way the girl supported her friend and was happy for her was amazing and she wanted to make sure that other girls do not have to miss out.

Last year they assisted girls with hair and nails, but this year they decided to sponsor the four girls with everything they needed.

The big day came on Monday, 2 November, when the four girls from Hoërskool Bastion were pampered by teams of people to get them ready for their dance.

While NSPA did the hair, make-up, lashes and more, Oh my Gosh Bridal boutique sponsored every girl with a dress. Wanita’s Photography took photos of their special night. Each girl also received a gift from Antionette da Fonseca.

Natalie said that whatever these girls needed they provided them with, including a limo to take them to the dance.

Diané Erasmus, one of the girls, said she was excited to spend the evening with her friends while Nicole Erasmus was nervous to walk in front of everyone. Karien Vermeulen excitedly said she could not wait for the food and fun with her friends.

Natalie thanked her staff who were so invested and excited, and who willingly gave their time to help make these girls’ day special.
