All it takes is an act of kindness

If you do one act of kindness a day, in a year it is a total of 365 acts of kindness. If 10 people do the same, it is 3 650 good deeds a year.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

How you start a day can make a difference.

If your day starts with a flash and a dash you may miss the point. From the ring of your alarm to the moment you step out of the door needs to count if you want to have a great day.

Equally important is how you end your day. A big meal, three hours of TV to numb your pain. I often think about my day before I fall asleep. Highs and lows of the day. Then I discovered something amazing. Very often one small, almost insignificant moment, makes a big difference in my day. Just a simple act of kindness by a total stranger can bring a light into your otherwise dark day. A day has 24 hours in it. Yet, it takes just a few seconds to do a good deed that can change someone’s day. A smile, a gesture, a heartfelt thank you is a powerful act of kindness. Maybe it is more powerful than a sermon.

People are hurting, they are scared. We rush past car guards, people at the till checking our purchases. The waiter that serves us and the elderly crossing a road.

Tonight, as they switch off their lights, it could be your face that gives them hope.

All it takes is an act of kindness. If you do one act of kindness a day, in a year it is a total of 365 acts of kindness. If 10 people do the same, it is 3 650 good deeds a year.

The Bible says what we do for a stranger, we do for Christ. Even a glass of cold water will guarantee a reward you can never lose.

An act of kindness makes a difference.
