FORA team walking the miles for their animals

FORA manager Linda Scrace and her team will host a walk-a-thon on a treadmill at their premises for the next three months.

How far would you go to ensure a safe, happy home for those you love?

Well, the team from Friends of Rescued Animals (FORA) will walk the 500 miles and walk a little bit more.

FORA is looking for a new premises, one that they can own and make their own, but to be able to relocate they need funds. The organisation relies on donations to look after the hundreds of animals in their care and every cent goes towards the animals.

This makes it really difficult to put away money and save to buy a new premises, but the team is getting creative in their efforts to raise funds and their latest event is a fun one.

FORA manager Linda Scrace and her team will host a walk-a-thon on a treadmill at their premises for the next three months. They are asking the community to sponsor their walk-a-thon by pledging for example R1 for every kilometre walked.

By sponsoring you can choose the amount you want to pledge and the member of the team you want to support. At the end of every month you make your donation according to the distance they covered on the treadmill.

This money will help them not only to find and buy a better, safer location, but also get it ready for the team and their fur family.

You can also keep an eye on the team member you are sponsoring by watching video posts of them daily on the FORA Facebook page.

The first leg of their walk-a-thon started on 13 November and continues until 12 December. The second leg will be from 13 December to 12 January.

The team’s newest member, Candis van Wyk, is also joining Linda, Thys Mulder and Devon van Gylswyk. Although they all started day one with a 2km walk, it soon became apparent that there is some competition among them and that Thys should not be underestimated. The second day the team members each did 4km and have since moved up to 6km with Thys doing 7km.

Why not visit their Facebook page, check out the athletes and sponsor a member.
