WATCH: Teen still missing since September
It has been weeks since the 16-year-old Shanay Kok has gone missing and her mother said she will not give up the fight to find her.
Seven weeks after going missing Shanay Kok’s mother, Laurika Kok, said she will not give up looking for her daughter.
Shanay, the second of seven children went missing in Lanseria on 14 September.
The children are home-schooled, so that day we had school and I went to the shops. It was a normal day,” Laurika said.
When she returned she saw Shanay was wearing make-up. But, like Laurika explained, this was not something out of the ordinary. Like any other 16-year-old girl Shanay loved to watch make-up tutorials on YouTube and then try them out.
“I asked her about the make-up and she said she liked looking good,” Laurika said.
She went into the house and 20 minutes later, when she called her daughter to come and eat, there was no sign of Shanay. Laurika thought she was sitting somewhere on the property listening to music through her earphones.
She would sometimes sit outside and listen to music, and keep herself busy with videos or social media,” she said.
Laurika asked one of her other daughters to send Shanay a WhatsApp message and when the message did not go through she knew that something was wrong. The family immediately started spreading the message asking the community to be on the lookout for Shanay, but it was already too late … she was nowhere to be found.

Shanay only took her handbag with her cellphone and make-up. None of her clothes or shoes were missing.
It has been seven weeks and there is still no sign of Shanay but Laurika said she will not give up. She wants Shanay to know that she loves her and will continue to look for her.
She described Shanay as having beautiful grey-blue eyes and a small scar between her eyebrows. The last time she saw her she had auburn hair and was wearing pink and black pyjamas with black Soviet takkies.
She weighs approximately 65kg and is 1,58m tall.
