Fitness to fight cancer

Many prominent figures stepped up to show their support and get the conversation going in the fight against cancer.

When the quartet powerhouse of Planet Fitness Krugersdorp, the PinkDrive, the Character Company and Miss/ Mr/ Ms Krugersdorp came together on Saturday,17 October, people took notice.

Dressed all in pink, a good number of people joined in as Planet Fitness instructors led a Box Fit Fightathon session, which is a highly active form of boxing done in an open space with a number of people. The idea was to promote a healthy lifestyle, which is especially important to cancer patients and in general, to promote awareness around breast cancer.

“People are very charitable by nature and are willing to give to organisations because they want to make a difference,” said Planet Fitness Krugersdorp Operations Manager, Chanel Swart.

“There’s no community if there’s no engagement. The key is getting members involved in the club, in as many ways as possible.”

Except for creating awareness, the main purpose of the event was to fund-raise for the PinkDrive, which helps those who do not have access to reasonable care by making it possible for them to get access to clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap smears and prostate-specific antigen tests.

Saturday was also day 18 of 72 of the #bthat1 campaign which supports the Character Company that helps young boys turn into responsible, strong men.

“Everything we do in life is part of something bigger,” said Chanel.

“We should never stop trying to be good people. Everything has a snowball effect; our event spread joy and happiness, and the participants walked away with a smile.

Their smile will make someone else’s day better and that person will influence someone else during their day. Being a good person and doing good things take no effort. That is what this was all about.”
