Logwood Village celebrates a tough year
Logwood Village recently held a combined end of year function to treat their residents and thank their staff for their hard work in a tough year.
For intellectually disabled adults, most daily activities come with some extra effort.
With lockdown and pandemic regulations further complicating matters for everyone, the residents of assisted-living homes such as Logwood Village are often more affected than others.
To guard them against the first wave of Covid-19 early in the year, many staff members temporarily left their families behind to move onto the Logwood grounds to help provide enhanced care.

The residents themselves had to get used to constantly wearing masks around one other, cleaning their hands on a much more regular basis and not touching one another. Touching seems like an obvious thing to avoid after living through the pandemic the past few months but, for persons living with disabilities, physical contact is important and they have to be reminded not to touch each other or visitors during the day.
All this said, Logwood Village wanted their 2020 year-end function to be different from previous years to reflect the struggles they’ve overcome and to honour everyone who gave more than was expected of them.

On Wednesday, 2 December, all residents and staff members were welcomed into the bottom workshop, which had been transformed into a Christmas wonderland with decorated tables and Christmas trees lining the walls on all sides. Each house on the grounds had the opportunity to decorate their own tree, and the residents of the house with the best made-up tree received a special meal as prize.
A catering company was brought in to prepare roasts on the spit, chicken and all the side dishes. As the residents walked into the hallway, they were welcomed by the aroma of delicious food, and many were eager to go straight to the front to dish up, even before the event actually started.
