Young man linked to 2019 murder arrested

'You will run and but you can't hide from the long arm of the law' – Kagiso Police station commander following the arrest of a 19-year-old linked to a 2019 murder.

After more than a year, Kagiso Police have finally arrested a 19-year-old Tshepisong man linked to a 2019 murder.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson said they never stopped searching for the suspect and on Tuesday night, 12 January, they made a breakthrough. At about 5am on 4 November 2019, police received a call about a murder in Tshepisong Phase 6.

On the scene they found the deceased lying in the street in a pool of blood. He had sustained stab wounds to the upper body and was declared dead on the scene by the paramedics,” Sibiya explained.

The suspect was unknown at the time and no eyewitnesses had come forward with any information. A case of murder was then opened at the Kagiso Police Station, and eventually the partnership between the police and the community yielded results and led to the successful arrest of the suspect.

“No one will take someone’s life and expect to live his life normally under our watch. You will run and but you can’t hide from the long arm of the law,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.

He also applauded his detectives for never giving up in their search. The suspect will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on a murder charge.
