Police ask people to drink responsibly and not fight

'People should enjoy themselves as much as they wish, but should know when to stop and guard against unnecessary confrontation.' — Police

The Kagiso Police have been registering an increasing number of assault cases where alcohol was involved.

Spokesperson for the Kagiso Police, Captain Solomon Sibiya said, “Police in Kagiso have registered more of these cases over the weekend. In most of them, empty beer bottles were used as weapons. Ironically, women are also among the perpetrators of this blood-spilling violence.”

He added that in most cases the abuse of alcohol had led to an increase in domestic-violence cases and assault, which according to Sibiya could have been avoided. Stabbing incidents have been registered in areas like Zulu Jump, Hillsview, Extension 12, Sinqobile, Swaneville and Tshepisong over the weekend, and Sibiya said that road rage also factored in.

It is regrettable that police cannot stop people from abusing alcohol, but we are concerned about the results thereof. It remains therefore the people’s responsibility to drink responsibly and to remember that there is always tomorrow.”

The Kagiso Police acting station commander, Colonel Peter Mabuso said people should enjoy themselves as much as they wish, but should know when to stop and guard against unnecessary confrontation.
